Free Multi-Step Learning Plans for Students Affected by COVID-19 School Closures
With the extended “March Break” imposed by many of the Canadian provinces, many students are at risk of opening gaps in their knowledge and understanding of this semester’s courses. Not only is an unexpected break tricky to navigate for students at any point, but to occur near midterms of second semester – prime time for university applications – there is an added challenge to managing and recovering from it.
From our primary grade students to our high school seniors, we have always taken pride in our ability to work with our students to provide resources above and beyond those provided in the classroom. During these difficult times, communities must rally together and help each other. We are glad to have the opportunity to provide support to as many parents, not just those of students who attend one of our centers, as we are able that are affected by the COVID-19 school closures.
Brainstorm Academy is offering free, multi-step learning plans, targeted practice problems, and specific descriptive feedback to help carry affected students through this extended break and minimize learning gaps.
What will this look like? First, we’ll be sending out questionnaires to anyone looking for this extra support. We have a general package that we’ve put together from our go-to resources, targeting the specific areas and skills that we see students struggle with most frequently. Once this workbook package is completed, reach out to us again and we’ll have a different conversation. We want to know how they liked it, what kind of resources they responded well to, which ones they hated, and so on. We will do individual consultations with students and parents to assess where they are in their learning; both in terms of what their class was currently teaching, and their understanding of content so far. Using this information, we will provide these parents with specific direction and suggestions on how to work more effectively with their children at home, as well as recommendations for future resources.
Those looking for additional, ongoing one-to-one support, will be able to do so through our usual online tutoring platform. Our current students will, of course, have access to this program in addition to their regular tutoring hours.
We will continue to provide this service, to the best of our ability, while the public schools remain closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
